Stability no longer comes from employers. It comes from how you design your career.
An underrated fact stands out. Internal mobility predicts retention more than compensation. This comes from the LinkedIn Workforce Report. People stay where they grow. They leave when learning stalls, even if pay looks good.
Over the last years, my work shifted alongside the market. I am a multi-preneur. I lead several offers at the same time. Corporate programs. Advisory work, digital products. Speaking. Community building. What I see mirrors a larger shift. Many professionals now hold a 9 to 5 role while building something from 5 to 9 side ventures. Examples are : boards, startups, advisory roles, creating Content or Teaching. This is no longer a risk move. It is a resilience move.
In large corporations, leaders still fear movement. They worry a mixed path signals lack of focus. The opposite is true. When careers are reframed as portfolios, options expand. Skills travel. Confidence grows. Market value rises.
The future belongs to hybrid professionals. People who understand corporate systems and entrepreneurial speed. Who know how to execute inside structure and create outside it. This mix builds judgment, adaptability, and leverage.
Career ownership means you stop outsourcing security. You decide what skills you build. You choose where to apply them. You stay employable and investable at the same time.
How you can make a difference and intention for 2026:
• Build a clear skill inventory across corporate, technical, and human skills.
• Seek one project beyond your formal role that stretches your exposure.
Two long term actions I suggest:
• Design your career as a portfolio, not a ladder.
• Combine corporate depth with entrepreneurial experiments.
